Hi, I’m Ryan Starkweather, I’m senior engineer at Big Green It and I’m going to talk to you about migrating to Azure. I get asked by clients all the time how they can move to Azure and if it is the right decision. There are multiple paths to Azure and one of the things I always recommend is doing an in-depth assessment of what their workloads are and that is really going to tell us what we can move to Azure, what isn’t supported in Azure and what other level of effort may be needed in order to move you to Azure.
In our base line Assessment we really work with the customer to write a baseline cost of what it would look like to move their current infrastructure as it sits direct to Azure, kind of a lift and shift. We go through and analyze their servers and everything on premise and say here is the direct cost. Sometimes the output of those tools isn’t always correct and that’s where we bring our years of experience in to analyze the output to make sure you have the most appropriate server pick to reduce that upfront cost. In some incidents its as easy as flipping a couple of switches and we move you and, in some cases, we actually have to go through and re-architect some things.
